Dong Hae Sushi Bar

I learned a random fact the other day, Sushi didn't start in Japan. Its origin can be traced back to South East Asia around the Mekong River region to around the 4th Century B.C. (Google it up if you don't believe me). It was first used as a method of preservation, keeping the fish eatable for months.

The Japanese though were responsible for what we see on our plates now, they popularised and improved upon the original idea to what we have today.

One of my favourite local Sushi places is Dong Hae. I've been going to this place for years and years, and years. Dong Hae has been in the Inner West suburb of Campsie for as long as I can remember. Its located opposite the train station but it  has convenient parking nearby, with one and two hour bays. My favourite aspect of this place, and always has been its freshness, the sushi is not pre prepared, it is always made after order is placed no matter how small the request or the amount.

Sushi Bar area, and also table available for larger groups, best to ring in advance to book group area as gets full easily around meal times

Appetizer

No matter the size of your order, this free appetizer is always provided at Dong Hae. It consists of Miso Soup and small salad with vinaigrette dressing. This acts to cleanse the pallet before the meal, and calms the stomach if you're starving. Always a great way to start.

Sushi/Sashimi Boat being prepared

Special Roll - Grilled Salmon $15

You can't go wrong with salmon and sushi. They're inseparable and make a great combination. I've yet to find a Sushi place to mess this up, and Dong Hae are no exception. It tasted great, have a bit of wasabi and vinegar to dip with, tastes even better, what more can I say.
Combination Sushi and Sashimi Boat - small $15

This combination includes several fresh fish including five slices of Nigiri (fresh fish on top of sushi rice) with various fish including Salmon, Tuna, Eel, Yellow Tail, Snapper and Prawn. It had four slices of Salmon Sashimi, one Ikura (Salmon Roe), two Crab Sushi with avocado and two Inari Sushi (fried Tofu pouch filled with sushi rice).
Daily Lunch Special $10

Dong Hae is well established and takes customer service very seriously as with any Japanese establishment. The interior is clean and crisp, but not formal. This allows you to relax and enjoy the freshness in comfort. If in the area and looking for something cheap, healthy and fresh, its hard to walk past the Sushi at Dong Hae.
